The title of this blog post might make you think we found a body under the dining room floor, so just to be clear we didn’t! But in the process of transforming this space we did find a very beautiful oak floor. First, let me show you the original estate agents pictures of this room:
Set at the front of the house the dining room is being transformed into a playroom for the children. This room originally joined the kitchen, with access to each via a good ol’serving hatch. Having now added a large kitchen / living room extension we knew we wouldn’t use this space as a dining room anymore and with a sea of jigsaws, toy cars and the like, a playroom seemed a great option instead.
Before the build started we were using the space as a dining room ourselves, eating breakfast surrounded by many boxes (stuff we’d packed when we moved house but felt it wasn’t worth unpacking until after the building work had started). The windows in this room were broken, all misty and water logged and generally the space needed an overhaul.
So out came the serving hatch. Instead we added double oak doors, these now lead into the new kitchen area.
The next task here will be to paint the skirting boards, fit a door architrave and then sand the floor and treat it. We’re going for a semi-matte coverage on the floor. Then add a sofa, rug and all the toys finally have a place to live and be played with.
