I loved the arrival of the Beast from the East. I know for some people it brought difficulty and stress, for those of you who had to cancel plans or miss events I’m sorry. However, as someone who adores snowy weather, this slightly unexpected dumping of snow provided us with the best 48 hours of fun we’ve had in a while. Whilst the children’s nursery managed to open, we found ourselves unable to get our cars out of the drive due to the snow drifts at the driveway entrance. Naturally, Poppy and Caspar were delighted to hear they were having a snow day at home and at 8:00am they excitedly rushed out into the garden for their first ever experience of ‘proper snow’. I love this photo of the back of our house. To me, it really shows off what a beauty this house is and its potential. Taking it into the 21st century over the next few months feels like the right thing to do. We’ve shivered quite a bit during the snowy weekend, with next to no insulation in any of the house, it really has been chilly inside – 13 degrees in the bathroom (makes for a chilly toilet seat!). We even met a mouse who popped out from under the sofa one day, keen to escape the cold…… (I screamed when I saw him!)
After playing in our back garden and the children loving the sledges (which incidentally I think B&Q must have made an absolute bomb on at £10 each!), we headed out across the field behind the house and went exploring. Almondsbury looked Christmas card pretty everywhere we looked. As the snow came down thicker and faster we decided to head to the local pub for lunch. We timed it well, shortly after we’d ordered, every table in the pub was taken. After a good feed we headed out for more sledging.
The next day, aware we’d had all the snow we were due and with rain forecast, we headed out again early, a walk to the garden centre for tea and cake, before we joined the rest of Almondsbury who’d commandeered the hill beside the garden centre for sledging. No photos from here as I left my camera at home, but I can confirm I did sledge down the hill, falling off twice and narrowly adverting knocking over a few people….. Then we were back to the pub for lunch again! With very little food available due to the kitchen selling out the day before and limited supplies, we had a hotch-potch pub lunch and even tried calorific freak-shakes! I’ve not had so much fun in ages, just being outdoors and together as a family is my idea of a perfect weekend, the addition of the snow just made it extra special.
And finally, here’s one of me. You can tell I’m a Mum in a rush, I’ve not even buttoned my coat up properly. No point sending help though, I’m a lost cause 🙂
I hope you had a stress-free, snowy weekend and managed to enjoy the Beast….. I’d love to know whether you managed to get out sledging or made a snowman ?
