Welcome to the first in a series of weekly blog posts, sharing the details of fellow home renovators. Each Wednesday I’ll be sharing with you some behind the scenes of some fellow home renovators, all people I’ve met by instagram. Instagram has a massive community of fellow home renovators and it’s fantastic for following on with the day to day trials and tribulations of the renovation joys! Enjoy…..
Tell me about you:
We are Bryce and Stefanie Lugo, a husband and wife duo in Phoenix, Arizona! After some time in corporate finance, we decided it was time to ditch our 9-5’s and build a business and life we could be proud of. Through chasing our dreams, we’ve been able to grow a multi-faceted business where we get to help our clients buy and sell residential real estate, renovate neglected homes in our favourite neighbourhoods, and help other entrepreneurs do better business! We love nothing more than helping others fulfil their dreams, whether its finding their first family home, buy the best house on the block, or create a business that they never imaged could be possible.
What’s your project and vision for how the finished renovation will look?
Today we are sharing our most recent renovation in trendy Central Phoenix, which we call “The House on Georgia”. Georgia is a special home built in 1942 – which is quite old by Phoenix’s standards! This home is in a historic area, and people love the neighbourhood for its trendy restaurants, beautiful foliage, and “neighbourhood” feel. We wanted to renovate this home in a way that honoured the character and charm of its time while catering to today’s modern home dweller.
How long has your renovation taken from start to end?
We completed this extensive renovation in about 3.5 months. This included major projects like a new roof, new central heating/cooling system, upgrades to wiring and electric, and a reconfiguration of the floorplan.
Did this renovation go to plan? Or have you encountered any hiccups along the way?
Every renovation has its own tricks up its sleeves! Each time we renovate a property, we learn more about the process and how to mitigate the unexpected issues. One that came up with Georgia was realizing we needed to add a third bedroom, which would ultimately require us to restructure the front entrance to the home! After making the change, we are so happy with the added curb appeal and elevation of the house.
Where do you go for build / interior inspiration?
We are Pinterest junkies! Instagram is also a great place to collaborate with other creatives and find inspiration from all over the world.
Where are your favourite go to places for interior homewares?
Everyone expects us to have some secret source for great home goods. In truth, you can find amazing finishes on Amazon, Overstock, Wayfair, and even sometimes Target!
If money was no object what would be one thing you’d do to the property that you haven’t been able to do?
I think this home has it all! But if we had to, we would add a gorgeous pool in the huge backyard for our desert dwellers.
Arizona home renovation
What’s your favourite thing about your property? i.e. is there a particular room you love, or an original feature you really love and want to restore?
We love the natural light that comes into the home, and we really love the bathrooms and kitchen! We always try to keep a piece of the home intact during these “to-the-studs” renovations, and in the case of Georgia, we were able to refurbish two original doors. One is a charming Dutch door in the kitchen, and another is a beautiful glass-paned door leading to the laundry.
What’s the one thing you wish you knew before you started this project / or what’s the one bit of advice you’d give to someone about to undertake a home renovation project?
Be ready for anything, and take TONS of pictures and videos all along the way at EVERY stage of the process!
Thanks so much to Bryce and Stefanie for sharing all the details of their fantastic renovation, it looks AMAZING! What a fantastic transformation! I really liked hearing about a US renovation, following their instagram has been really interesting, particularly how things differ to stuff we may do in the UK. For example when they were first starting out in the industry they sat a real estate licensing test and they now regularly ‘flip’ houses. Plus they’ve been really creative in how they promote their properties on instastories, even laying on a cute mobile coffee van to cater for the 70+ visitors who came to visit it on open day.
